Spiritual growth rarely happens through a single dramatic moment β it’s built through consistent, repeated habits over time. This plan explores five principles for building them.
Day 1 β Train Yourself for Godliness
Read 1 Timothy 4:7-8.
“Train yourself for godliness… godliness is of value in every way.” Paul uses athletic training language β discipline and repetition, not a single event.
Try this: Choose one small, repeatable spiritual habit to start today, however small.
Day 2 β Daily Bread
Read Exodus 16:4 and Matthew 6:11.
God provided manna daily, not in a stockpile β and Jesus teaches praying for “daily” bread. Spiritual sustenance is often designed to be a daily practice, not a one-time supply.
Try this: Approach today’s spiritual practice as today’s portion, not a backlog to catch up on.
Day 3 β A Habit of Gathering
Read Hebrews 10:25.
Believers are instructed not to neglect meeting together β a habit that requires ongoing, deliberate choice, easily neglected without intention.
Try this: Make one deliberate choice today to prioritize gathering with other believers.
Day 4 β Renewing the Mind Daily
Read 2 Corinthians 4:16.
“Our inner self is being renewed day by day.” This is ongoing, incremental language β not a single transformation, but daily renewal.
Try this: Notice one small way your mind can be renewed today, through Scripture or prayer.
Day 5 β Small Beginnings
Read Zechariah 4:10.
“Who has despised the day of small things?” God doesn’t despise small, incremental beginnings β they’re not lesser than dramatic ones.
Try this: Don’t despise the small habit you started this week. Trust its compounding value over time.
Closing thought: Godly habits aren’t built through intensity β they’re built through consistency, small and repeated, trusted to compound over time into real transformation.
